What you need to knowVOCSN is the first and only multi-function ventilator that combines multiple respiratory therapies—traditionally provided by separate pieces of equipment—into one device. VOCSN can be used noninvasively with a mask, invasively with a tracheotomy, or with a mouthpiece.
VOCSN has integrated cough assist and suction functions that can be activated with the touch of a button, which eliminates the need to disconnect the ventilator and switch between devices to clear and suction the airway. VOCSN also has an oxygen concentrator and nebulizer. By combining traditionally separate machines into a single, portable device, this fully customizable, unified respiratory system integrates care, saves time, and allows for greater mobility, all of which can improve the quality of life for both ALS patients and caregivers. Developed over the course of a decade with patient and caregiver input, VOCSN is now being used by patients nationwide, including Pat Quinn, Ice Bucket Challenge Co-Founder, and residents at Steve Gleason's Gleason House in New Orleans. |

Where can I get VOCSN?
VOCSN received clearance from the FDA in 2017 and has been available for Medicare billing since January 1, 2019. Medicare created a new billing code for this new category: HCPCS E0467 — Multi-Function Ventilator. Visit the VOCSN website for details on eligibility, reimbursement, and billing. State Medicaid and private insurance are also covering VOCSN under E0467.

In order to qualify for VOCSN under E0467, your neurologist or pulmonologist will need to write a prescription and provide documentation that you qualify for a ventilator (for either invasive or noninvasive use) and one of the additional therapies (oxygen, cough, suction, and/or nebulizer).
A durable medical equipment (DME) company will then process your order. The VOCSN multi-function ventilator will generally be delivered to your home, where you will receive training in device setup and use. If you get a tracheotomy, you and your caregivers will be trained in the hospital after surgery.

Multi-View Reporting System
In November 2019, VOCSN introduced Multi-View, a comprehensive new reporting system that gives therapists, physicians, and caregivers the summarized data they need to make informed treatment decisions and care plans for ventilator-dependent patients.
Multi-View provides a smart summary across all five therapies, an easy-to-read compliance calendar, and multi-therapy trending insights. Patient data can be accessed locally through VOCSN's USB port, or it can be transmitted in a secure, anonymized format via Wi-Fi and cellular data. Multi-View is currently in beta stage as engineers continue to improve it through regular feedback from respiratory therapists and physicians. Multi-View's formal launch is scheduled for 2020. Visit the VOCSN website to learn more about Multi-View. |
About Ventec Life Systems
Ventec's Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Doug DeVries, is an engineer with nearly four decades of leadership and a record of successful innovation in mechanical ventilation. After his father passed from ALS, Doug dedicated himself to developing a game-changing, all-in-one device that would improve quality of life for patients and caregivers. He assembled a team of top-flight engineers and product designers with decades of experience creating respiratory equipment. The result was VOCSN, a device so new that Medicare had to create a separate billing code for "multi-function ventilators." All of Ventec's design and manufacturing takes place at its headquarters, just outside of Seattle, WA.
