Our Team

Kim Hughes

Kim worked as Director of Care Services for the ALS Association Arizona Chapter from 2004 to 2016. She worked directly with hundreds of people with ALS as well as their caregivers and loved ones. For 12 years, Kim conducted home visits, facilitated support groups, served as a team member for multidisciplinary ALS Clinics, managed the loan closet, attended fundraisers and national conferences, traveled to Capitol Hill ten years in a row to advocate for ALS, and much more.

Kim is known throughout the ALS community for her extensive knowledge, candid advice, big heart, and sense of humor. Prior to the ALS Association, Kim worked for a durable medical equipment company for four years. Kim has lived in Arizona since 1999, though her Long Island roots—and accent—are on full display when she gets fired up about her beloved New York Giants. Kim lives in Mesa, Arizona, with her wonderful boyfriend, Dan, and their two mischievous dogs. In her spare time, Kim loves to work out and enjoy the outdoors in the cooler climate of northern Arizona.

David has written 20 children’s books, including Call of the Klondike, which was named the Best Nonfiction Book of 2013 by the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. David lives in Boulder, Colorado, with his wife, Elizabeth, and their black lab, Nalani. They enjoy hiking and camping in the beautiful Rocky Mountains.
