Local ALS Support Services in Washington

We highly recommend connecting with an ALS nonprofit organization that serves your area. These organizations can answer your questions, provide individualized support, connect you to resources, and much more—free of charge.



The ALS Association

The ALS Association offers a variety of programs and services that help support people living with ALS and their families. The ALS Association provides advocacy leadership, research and clinical trial information, ALS clinic referrals, support groups, Medicare/Insurance Navigation services, a Virtual Home Modification and Safety Assessment program, and My ALS Journey, an interactive, web-based tool that allows people living with ALS to take control of their journey with the disease. ALS Northwest

ALS Northwest is the central source for ALS Care Services and Education for People living with ALS, their families, care partners, and health care professionals in Oregon and SW Washington.

Free services include:

  • Individualized support through home and virtual visits, phone, text, and email
  • In-person and virtual support groups for people living with ALS, family members, and friends
  • Family caregiver support groups, educational programs, referrals, and support
  • Supportive care coordination with multiple ALS clinics
  • Medical equipment loan program
  • Support and resources for children impacted by ALS
  • Educational resources and materials in print, web, and video formats
  • Communication and assistive technology education, support, and loaner equipment
  • Financial assistance—$500 every six months—for ALS related expenses
  • A volunteer program that can help support families
  • Bereavement support program for family and friends who have lost a loved one

Matt's Place Foundation

Matt's Place Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides hope, housing, and assistance to people and families affected by ALS who live in Idaho, Montana, and Washington State.

Families can apply for mortgage/rent assistance, remodeling assistance, ramp assistance, and the opportunity to live rent-free in one of two smart homes (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho or Spokane, Washington) that were designed specifically for people living with ALS. You can also find an ALS Home Renovation video series on their website.

Adaptive Technology Center

The Adaptive Technology Center at the Steve Gleason Institute for Neuroscience at Washington State University serves as an information, education, and exploration center on adaptive technologies for families affected by neurodegenerative diseases.

Families can schedule in-person or virtual tours to learn about power wheelchairs, communication devices, home automation options, and other technologies that promote independence and an improved quality of life.

National ALS Support and Services

The following organizations can provide support, material assistance, advocacy opportunities, and more for families affected by ALS.

  • Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS) offers an innovative and holistic range of in-person and virtual services that are tailored to meet each family’s unique needs.
  • Hope Loves Company (HLC) provides support to children and young adults affected by ALS, including in-person camps in various states across the country.
  • I AM ALS offers advocacy opportunities, virtual support groups, and ongoing emotional support and logistical guidance for families impacted by ALS.
  • The LiveLikeLou Foundation has volunteers throughout the U.S. and Canada who can help families affected by ALS with tasks in and around the home.
  • Synapticure is a telemedicine healthcare company that provides personalized care and guidance for people living with ALS via video, phone, and email.
  • Team Gleason offers grants that help pay for innovative technology and equipment for people living with ALS. ​



Veterans Benefits

If you are a U.S. military Veteran who has been diagnosed with ALS, you should qualify for substantial service-connected benefits through the VA. The Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) is a nonprofit organization that can help Veterans and their families understand and apply for benefits.​
