What you need to know
People who are unable to roll over or turn themselves in bed are at a greater risk of developing painful pressure injuries, respiratory complications like pneumonia, and other issues. Typically, a family member or paid caregiver must wake up every two hours or so to manually turn and reposition the person living with ALS, which disrupts sleep for both the caregiver and the sleeper.
The Freedom Bed has a quiet and gentle mechanical full-bed turning system that can help prevent bed sores, reduce respiratory complications, and let everyone sleep through the night. Using a Freedom Bed can:
The Freedom Bed has a quiet and gentle mechanical full-bed turning system that can help prevent bed sores, reduce respiratory complications, and let everyone sleep through the night. Using a Freedom Bed can:
- Help relieve pressure and prevent pressure injuries
- Reduce pain from being in one position for too long
- Reduce respiratory complications
- Improve circulation
- Reduce or eliminate the need for nighttime caregiving
- Improve sleep for both the user and the caregiver
- Make it easier to bathe in bed
- Allow some people to live at home instead of in a nursing home or care facility
With proper medical guidance, people living with ALS who use feeding tubes and/or ventilators can safely use the Freedom Bed. It can elevate the head to 30 degrees and still rotate.
How the Lateral Rotation System Works
The Freedom Bed has a three-section mattress and mechanized hinged bed platform that automatically turns the bed user to different, stable sleeping positions throughout the night. As the bed smoothly and quietly rotates to one side, the lower section of the platform turns up to form a wing that supports and cradles the sleeper.

The angles of rotation and dwell times in each position can all be pre-programmed as well as manually adjusted or overridden. You can operate the bed with a user-friendly hand control panel or an optional voice control system using Amazon’s Alexa. There are also optional pillow and finger switches. Upon delivery, a technician will train you how to operate your Freedom Bed.
ALS Testimonials
“I don't have the words to describe all the benefits of my new rotation bed and how pleased I am with the customer service! Not only does my bed have the highest quality construction, but the functionality is well designed for people with limited mobility. The positioning, rotation, and overall design meet all my needs for keeping me as healthy as possible.
I now wake up fully rested and can feel the improvement in circulation and distribution of pressure points. And my husband gets a full night's sleep. We are both grateful for that! Please give this company and bed serious consideration. You will not be disappointed.”

“You never truly understand how much a good night’s sleep means until you have experienced nights of waking up several times to relieve your loved one because they can’t turn on their own. I had to get up with my husband and turn him so he could be comfortable and sleep. It’s not easy to get back to sleep, and when you finally do, it’s time to turn him again. My research brought me to your company and I am forever thankful.
Mark said that out of all the things we got to help his quality of life, this bed was the best. He was able to sleep without suffering from severe pains from pressure points. He had no skin break-down, which meant no risk of skin infections. Thank you, thank you. A good night’s sleep does wonders for your attitude and stamina.”
– Helene M, ALS Caregiver
“I've used the Freedom Bed every night and I'm completely satisfied with it. The best thing about the Freedom Bed is its ability to turn and my ability to control it with my voice. The Freedom Bed has 14 voice commands that allow me to change positions, rotate left and right, raise and lower my head, etc. I can't push buttons, but I can still control the bed. It also rolls me from side to side every 30 minutes, so it keeps me moving all night long. At first, I thought the movement was going to wake me up, but I haven't found that to be so. I'm 100% happy with the bed.”
