ALS Transfer Video Series

Picture

This six-part instructional video series demonstrates ways people living with ALS can transfer in a variety of common scenarios. From getting in and out of bed to navigating bathrooms and vehicles, these moments can significantly impact independence, safety, and quality of life.

We created these videos together with ALS Network, a nonprofit organization based in California that provides care services, funds research, and leads advocacy efforts.

Behind the Scenes

When ALS Network's care services team identified the need to educate families about safe transfers, we decided to work together to create instructional videos on the topic.

After hours of discussion and planning, we all spent a memorable weekend filming at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Los Angeles. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jason Ramirez and his caregiver Maureen Castorena and Robert Hook and his caregiver Norma Hook for helping us demonstrate these transfers on camera.

We could not have created these videos without the invaluable input and feedback from occupational therapist Brenda Covarrubias, physical therapist Song Vo from Cedars-Sinai, and occupational therapist Jessica Mok from UCSF. We would also like to thank Persuasion Pictures for filming and La Storia Productions for their post-production work.

We hope these videos will become a helpful resource for the entire ALS community.
